Well, I uploaded this code. As you indicated: it does compile. But my motors do not spin. I see a glitch but nothing else. I have opened the serial monitor and observed it stepping through the code loop which it does. I again load the original DEMO code which steps through one wheel at a time and observed through the serial monitor each motor turning as the serial monitor progresses through the code. I am using a Genuine Arduino UNO and 12vdc battery (A DC1248A battery http://alexnld.com/product/dc-1248a-4800mah-capacity-rechargeable-lithium-battery-for-cctv-camera/ purchased from Linksprite.com for the motor shield and a separate 2x3.7v dc battery pack (http://www.amazon.com/UltraFire-3000mAh-Rechargeable-Battery-Charger/dp/B00MCJNIL0/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1455660395&sr=8-3&keywords=18650+battery).
I have the 12vdc pack on the charger now...next I will disconnect a few motors to eliminate excessive draw...thus pointing back to battery since the code is stepping though without issue. Maybe enable current measurement to see what that is reading...jumpers are in for that I believe although in DEMO code they were reading all 0's.
