Well, I figured it out. I had the USB cable plugged into my laptop and still into the UNO, but had the 7.4vdc batteries plugged into the Motor shield with the Vin jumper disengaged, thus powering them separately....but apparently the IO ports were still hung up after the upload. Once I removed the USB cable from the UNO and reenabled the shield's Vin jumper to power both boards it started working....except instead of moving forward and back..it spin CW and CCW....thus requiring me to reverse the polarity of the EVEN motors leads and drives correctly....now to figure the left/right coding and I'm golden.
